The pioneering force behind the rise of trip-hop, Massive Attackwere among the most innovative and influential groups of their generation; their hypnotic sound -- a darkly sensual and cinematic fusion of hip-hoprhythms, soulful melodies, dubgrooves, and choice samples -- set the pace for much of the dancemusic to emerge throughout the 1990s, paving the way for such acclaimed artists as Portishead, Sneaker Pimps, Beth Orton, and Tricky, himself a Massive Attack alumnus. Home Of The Whale Lyrics

Massive Attack

(owen hand)
Caroline lavelle
Oh my love he works upon the sea
On the waves that blow wild and free
He splices the ropes and he sets the sail
While southwards he roams to the home of the whale
And he neer thinks of me far behind
Or the torments that rage in my mind
He is mine for only part of the year
Then Im left all alone with only my tears
All ye ladies that smell of white rose
Thank ye for your perfume to wear on my gold
Thank ye all the wives and the babies that yearn
For the man neer returns from hunting the sperm [whale]
Oh my love he works upon the sea
On the waves that blow wild and free
He splices the ropes and he sets the sail
While southwards he roams to the home of the whale
